In the past several years, Downtown Louisville has undergone extensive revitalization with the renovation of "4th Street Live!," the Louisville Waterfront Development, extensive building of modern Lofts and Condos, as well as the "rehabbing" of 100+ year old warehouses and buildings as Loft and Condo space. The number of housing units has doubled in the last 20 years and is expected to double yet again within just the next three years.  Prices of these living spaces range from the upper $100K to several million dollars.

The $252 million dollar Louisville waterfront arena (not yet officially named) is currently under construction on the Ohio River waterfront and is slated to open in fall 2010 at Second and Main Street. The project is part of a $450-million project that would include a 975-car parking structure and floodwall.

The area to the East is referred to as the Gallery district and boasts many wonderful art galleries. Residents of Louisville make the First Friday Trolley Hop a part of their monthly activities.

Downtown is where Louisville's world-renowned Arts offerings are located. It is the only US city of its size to boast a Ballet, Opera, Theatre, and Orchestra.  The KY Center for the Arts hosts a variety of performing arts events throughout the year and is a popular destination for Louisvillians.
